SKIN HEALTH through a Universal Mind & Body Perspective
MY STORY
I began my journey into aesthetics with great excitement and high expectations. The stubborn acne, eczema, warts, and lymphangioma were a lot to endure as a teenager. Ultimately, these conditions set my path. Lymphangioma is a rare disease between the layers of the skin. Once a year, an infected tumor, the size of a baseball, would put me down with a fever for two weeks. For 18 years, doctors did not relieve the infection, diagnose me, or refer me to a specialist. Yes, I became more than intrigued. I became obsessed! At the beginning of my career, I was excited, committed, and dedicated during the first few years of doing one-on-one treatments. I felt it was an opportunity to help myself and others like me.
It was close to fifteen years, in 2005, of practicing aesthetics within my 6,000 sq ft spa and juice bar café. I finally accepted that I was frustrated and unhappy. So I stepped away from my business. On the one hand, my knowledge was limited. I could not help my clients enough with acne, eczema, and rosacea. On-the-other hand, some clients were willing to pay me very well to peel off their faces. They believed that chemical peels, retinoids, alpha-hydroxy, and diamond peels were the answer to youthful and regenerated skin. I explained that most of these treatments had limitations and were temporary solutions. Otherwise, they would cause sensitivity and shorten the life span of the skin by five years. Instead, for healthy & youthful skin, I proposed natural alternatives along with regular treatments. Back then, juicing and higher nutrition were not a thing. I did not only lose the revenue, but I also lost their respect. They were happy to go somewhere else. And I would encourage them to do so.
I decided to continue my education: Medical Eating Disorders, Gerontology, and Human Services. I also felt I needed to focus on personal development through meditation and self-help courses. Personal growth was and continues to be an overall rewarding journey. Furthermore, while on this journey, I was motivated to take an intensive course in herbology. Ironically, this course put me back on track. It gave me a larger perspective on skin disorders and herbal ingredients. Much to my surprise, it expanded my resources to create more effective products. And the ability to support others more effectively.
I have never considered my profession to be one of mere vanity. I am convinced that the body & the skin are a reflection of the spirit & soul. Hence, I quote, “The Body is a Temple…”.
Within Bien Star, I combine my experiences, higher education, training, & personal growth teachings to assist others. For those interested in a holistic universal approach, it would be an honor to guide you through this spectacular journey with my services and products!
